Well folks, we are officially less than a month away from our big event. By now, you've heard us talk about Carson, Kyle, Sawyer, Layla, and Ellie - all local kiddos who have battled pediatric brain cancer, and have a parent in the AEC industry. Now, we'd like to introduce you to Makenzie and her dad, our very own Jon Parsons.

How are you connected to The Carson Leslie Foundation or the Women’s Auxiliary of Children’s Medical Center?
Jon: As a family we share a connection with the beneficiaries of Hoot & Holler as our daughter Makenzie has been battling a rare childhood cancer called LCH since 2021. This has been an incredibly difficult journey for her and our family, but we are so thankful that she is in a much healthier position today. We are always thrilled to support funding and research for rare childhood cancers as they are often overlooked.

You've been attending the Hoot & Holler for a few years now, why do you keep coming back?
Jon: Hoot & Holler is my wife and I’s most favorite DPR event of the year. There are a number of fun things happening throughout the year, but this is an event we don’t miss. It gives us a chance to catch up with all of our friends and enjoy the band.

Who has been your favorite performance? Why?
Jon: Our favorite year was when Josh Abbott Band played. However, we are biased because my cousin is the banjo player.

What is your favorite Hoot & Holler memory? Why?
Jon: Memories are a little hard to retain from the Hoot & Holler. Last year I attempted to steal the large Hoot bird from the main entrance and was kindly asked to put it back.

What would you tell someone that's never been to the Hoot & Holler before?
Jon: The Hoot & Holler is a super low pressure event and its all about having fun. So many things we attend in this industry feel more like interviews. This is not like that.

Which musician would you most like to see at Hoot & Holler?
Jon: Shane Smith and the Saints and Colter Wall

If Hoot & Holler was an emoji, which one would it be?
Jon: Fire🔥 Construction Worker👷🏻‍♂️ Beer 🍺 Bird for safe measure🐤
The thing about cancer is how close it can be, and in this case, it is in our immediate DPR family. Thank you Jon, for sharing about Makenzie and promoting this cause. We have no doubt this year will bring many more fun memories (or lack thereof)?!  And if the bird ever goes missing, we'll know where to look!
Also, we would be remiss if we didn't offer the Parsons family a heartfelt congratulations on the arrival of baby girl number three: little Miss Colbie Mae, born on January 17th!

Congratulations!
